If the sound of sirens and “Despacito” remixes has infiltrated your dreams, you’re probably due for a relaxing day. While NYC certainly has a reputation for being a bit raucous, there is no shortage of places to unwind.
Wave Hill, Bronx
This bucolic park situated along the Hudson River is the perfect place to disconnect. Watch frogs play hopscotch in the picturesque aquatic gardens, stroll flower-lined paths, and take in the in the dramatic views of the Hudson River and the Palisades.
Jefferson Market Garden
Nestled next to the Jefferson Market Library, an architectural beauty and beacon of Greenwich Village, is a charming garden complete with cobbled pathways, shady nooks, and a small koi pond. Grab a book at the library or nearby Three Lives and Company and spend the day reading in the tranquil surroundings.
The Rubin Museum of Art
Admire the art of the Himalayas and surrounding regions as you make your way through this under the radar museum in Chelsea. The exhibitions are tastefully curated and the space itself is easy to navigate, making it perfectly suited for a day of contemplation and reflection.
Prospect Park has long been a favorite of those seeking to unwind and get that much needed dose of nature. My personal favorite spot to perch is on the green grass near the Boathouse/Audubon Center, an eye catching Beaux Arts landmark. As you enjoy your picnic, watch a white swan drift slowly across the pond.
The Noguchi Museum
Located in Astoria, this museum is a wonderful respite from daily stresses. The airy, light-drenched galleries and serene sculpture garden lend this museum an intimate atmosphere that you just won’t find at larger museums in the city. A great space to reflect and appreciate some truly beautiful works of art.
