Downtown Brooklyn is buzzing with activity. With great shopping destinations, eclectic food options, and top notch entertainment to choose from, this diverse hub has all the ingredients necessary to make a perfect day.

Hit the Farmer’s Market

Pick up some delicious baked goods, fresh produce, and artfully-arranged bouquets at this quaint open air market situated in front of Borough Hall. I myself am a big fan of the lovingly-made cider doughnuts from Francesca’s bakery. So, grab a snack, take a seat on the steps of Borough Hall, and bask in the midday sun.

Dreaming of Soup Dumplings

If you’ve spent some time in NYC, you’ve probably acquired a soup dumpling radar. Or maybe that’s just me. These plump n’ juicy, pork-filled blessings are perfect any time of the day. Fill your tummy to your heart’s delight at Yaso Tangbao, a fast casual restaurant serving up Shanghai-style street fare on Lawrence Street.

Shop til you Drop

Fulton Ave has shops for everyone and every budget. Pick up some new threads at one of the many storefronts lining Fulton Ave. With several stores offering discounted prices, you can splurge and get that new jacket and pair of shoes.

Newly opened City Point is a one-stop destination for shopping and eating. Grab some food at Dekalb Market Hall, a lively food hall with a wide range of vendors offering everything under the sun, or neon glow. Tacos, pho, jerk chicken, empanadas, Reuben sandwiches… As you can imagine, I usually do the rounds before making a decision.

Continue your shopping spree at Target, a truly magical place where you can buy groceries, furniture, clothing, and other earthly pleasures. If you have a place in your heart for kitschy knick knacks, make sure to stroll the aisles of  Flying Tiger. This Danish version of a dollar store sells everything from kitchenware to panda printed socks.

If you’re in the mood for a frosty mug, head to Circo Brewing Co on Lawrence St. The atmosphere is industrial-chic and there’s plenty of space to sit and enjoy a pint or three. You’d be making a mistake if you didn’t order some delicious wood-fired pizza.

Showtime

Gloomy day? Alamo Drafthouse has got you covered. This theater is the Cleopatra of movie theaters. It’s got class, it’s got sophistication, and of course, undeniable beauty. And like a queen, you too can be served while enjoying a film on the silver screen. Who doesn’t love a movie with dinner and drinks?!
