Streets to Stroll in Brooklyn
NYC's second largest borough is a tapestry of colorful neighborhoods. It's no surprise that there are some truly beautiful streets to stroll. So put on your trusty kicks and follow me down some of Brooklyn's bustling thoroughfares and tranquil side streets
Marlborough Road, Ditmas Park
This road runs through one of Brooklyn’s most charming neighborhoods, Ditmas Park. If you haven’t been here yet, do yourself a favor and head to this secluded nabe to marvel at the historic single family homes that line the streets. You won’t see any cookie cutter apartment buildings on Marlborough Road. Instead, you’ll find unique Colonial revivals and colorful Queen Annes. This quiet residential neighborhood will have you wondering if you took some sort of magic train back to a time when things were slower and the milkman came on Mondays. If you’re in the mood for a glass of rosé or hoppy IPA, make your way to Sycamore Bar and Flower Shop on Cortelyou road. A local spot with a quaint back patio and garden. If you’re on a date, buy some beautifully arranged flowers from the shop in front.
Guernsey Street, Greenpoint
This tree lined street is located in historic Greenpoint. Whenever I'm by McCarren park, I make sure to go off the beaten track and walk down this inviting street. Beautiful locust trees form a canopy above, allowing just enough sunlight to slip through and dance on the charming row houses and sidewalks below. There are plenty of great cafes ,bars, and shops on nearby Franklin Ave and Manhattan Ave to grab a bite or do a little vintage shopping. A personal fav is Peter Pan Donut. This classic bakery has been serving up delicious doughnuts for 50 years. If it's vintage you seek, make sure to stop by Dobbin Street Vintage Co-op. This spacious store has everything from plush velvet couches to vintage leather jackets and more.
Court Street, Cobble Hill/ Carroll Gardens
Don’t be surprised if you start humming “What a Wonderful World” when you’re strolling down this pleasant street which runs through both Clinton Hill and Carroll Gardens. With it’s church steeples and long-standing mom and pop shops, this street still has some good ol’ historic charm. There are several great places to grab a bite or settle in for happy hour. If It’s pizza you crave, make sure to stop by Sal’s pizza for a tasty slice. Go ahead, follow up that pizza with some decadent chocolate from The Chocolate Room or better yet wash it down with a tiki-drink from nearby Zombie Hut on Smith St.
Troutman Street, Bushwick
Hop off the Jefferson L Stop and make your way down Troutman and the surrounding streets to see some of Brooklyn’s most eye-catching and prolific street art. You’ll be blown away by some serious skills. Artists from around the world have come here to show their talent and give a little life to the walls of Bushwick. Stop by Union Pizza Works for a delicious pizza pie or bask in the sun over at Sea Wolf, an airy haunt serving up frozen drinks and fruits de mer. Follow us on Instagram @englishoutdoorsny
