It’s no secret that New York is one of the world’s best destinations to learn English. I mean who wouldn’t want to study in such an epic city? There is a seemingly endless list of things to do and plenty of opportunities to improve your English. So to fill you in on all the advantages I’ve created a list of the top 5 reasons why to learn English in New York. Let’s take a look:

1. Diversity

New York is home to over 8 million people! This mix of people contributes to the city’s unique cosmopolitan identity. Across all five boroughs ( Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, & Staten Island) you’ll come across a diverse melting pot of cultures that can be experienced through the myriad of museums, restaurants, activities, shops, and more. What better way to study English than to meet and talk with all the people that make New York such a special place.

2. Culture, Fashion, Arts

In a city like New York, there are so many wonderful ways to truly immerse yourself in the culture. From world class museums (MoMa, MET, Whitney, Guggenheim)  to DIY performance spaces (House of Yes, The Deep End, Market Hotel, Sofar Sounds) and everything in between, there is something to do every day of the week. Go shopping on 5th Avenue, see a concert in Williamsburg, attend a film festival, or join in on any of the parades (Halloween Parade, Coney Island Mermaid Parade, Maycy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade) and celebrations held throughout the city. There is no doubt you will be inspired by the energy and vitality that radiates across the entirety of the city. All the more reason to learn English in New York.

3. Nightlife

If you consider yourself a night owl, New York is where you should learn English. You’ll be out on the town and improving your English skills in no time. Whether you prefer going out on the weekdays or weekends, there is something going on every night, rain or shine. Dance the night away (Bossa Nova/ Elsewhere/ Bembe/ Union Pool), watch a movie in a park surrounded by the bright lights of the city or at one of the many dine-in cinemas ( Nite Hawk, Alamo Drafthouse, Syndicated), go bar hopping , bowling, or why not catch a jazz show in the West Village ( Village Vanguard / Smalls/ Fat Cat) or Harlem (Minton’s Playhouse/ Paris Blues)? The list is endless…

4. Food

Food food food.. New York has every kind of cuisine you could imagine. Slurp soup dumplings in Chinatown, enjoy the best Greek food in Queens, nibble on some artisanal chocolate in Red Hook ( Raaka Chocolate), grab a late nite slice of pizza, or go to one of the many food festivals and markets (Smogasburg, Dekalb Market Hall, Industry City, Eataly) to try a sampling of the best the city has to offer. Just another reason to learn English in New York while making your taste buds happy.

5. New Yorkers

New Yorkers are open-minded and accepting of all people. They are happy to help you with directions and give recommendations if asked. While they may not start a conversation on the train, they’d be happy to chat with you at a bar, concert, cafe, or event. Plus, with thousands of people moving to the city each year, many people are looking to make new friends!
