Hitch A Ride to Rockaway Beach!
Things are starting to get steamy in the concrete jungle, which means it's officially time to hit the beach. While there are several public beaches in NYC, Rockaway Beach is a true crowd pleaser. You can bask in the midday sun, munch on tasty treats, or just stroll the boardwalk. Claim your Spot I recommend getting to the beach around noon to claim your spot. I usually set up shop near Beach 98. A short 5 min walk from the train and you'll be face to face with the mighty Atlantic. Lay your towel down on the hot sand and get lost in a book as the waves crash before you. If you're in the mood for a bite and cold beverage, there is an eclectic food court steps from the sand. Check out the Neighborhood Shopping If you're getting a little bored sitting on the sand, there's plenty to do in town. Pick up some vintage threads at Zingaro Vintage, an inviting shop with a beachy vibe. If you're looking for something new for your wardrobe head to Off Season. A well curated store with a great selection of Women's apparel, beauty products, and beach necessities. After your shopping spree, head next door to Uncle Louis G ice cream parlor and cool down with a delicious pineapple Italian ice. Food and Drink There are several places to wet your whistle on the Rockaway Peninsula . A personal favorite is Sayra's Wine Bar. It's far less crowded than other nearby watering holes and there is a spacious green patio to escape the summer heat and enjoy a cold beer or glass of rosé.If you’re in more of a festive mood, make your way to Rockaway Beach Surf Club. This lively joint serves up some seriously tasty tacos, so make sure to grab a couple to munch on as you sip your summer cocktail. On the weekends it can get a lil crowded, so be warned. A burger with fries on the boardwalk is a timeless beach staple. Fortunately, Rippers is there for you and all your burger cravings. Dip some golden fries into a volcano of ketchup, sip on a cold Narragansett, and enjoy that summer breeze! Caracas Arepa Bar is also worth popping into for a bite. Make sure to get a frozen sangria with that arepa. The vibe is laid back and there is always some good music to dance to as you soak up the summer sun. Rockaway Brewing Company is another great spot to to grab a beer and mix with the local crowd. It’s a little off the beaten path but this relatively new brewery has a spacious tap room and plenty of outdoor seating.
